A letter from our President, Nicole Meadowcroft
I know that many of you are concerned with what is happening with worldwide infections and the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). I am deeply concerned myself and want to make sure that we safeguard the health and well-being of every person in our organization and our families. I want to make sure we take the necessary precautions to avoid contracting COVID-19 or spreading it, but I also want to make sure that we do not create an atmosphere of panic and fear. However, it is understandable that you may feel stressed or anxious about the situation.
I care very passionately about our CCSDA village: our clients, volunteers, staff, trainers, puppy raisers, Board of Directors, supporters and beyond. Consequently, and with a heavy heart, we have made the difficult decision to close our facility to all but essential staff until the end of June. We continue to monitor the climate of the current pandemic and we'll notify you of any changes moving forward.
In the meantime:
We will hold off on new client/service dog placements until the end of June.
We will continue to respond to the needs of our current clients and volunteers via phone, email, social media and Zoom meetings.
We will conduct regular follow-ups with clients.
In emergencies, we will attend to clients' needs in person as we can, following in-home guidelines of social distancing and safety protocol.
Our traditional puppy training sessions will shift to virtual classes via Zoom.
We will postpone the scheduled July 1 Owner Trainer semester until August 1, assuming it will be safe then to do so.
For program dog evaluations with trainers, curbside drop-off and pick-up may be arranged practicing social distancing and safety protocol.
Personally, I've had a very hard time with the "physical" distancing from our volunteers and clients, along with my family and friends. I understand that everyone is having a difficult time with quarantining and sheltering at home. Please reach out to us! We are here for you.
